There’s a sale happening in the Ellen Hutson shop today - 25% off over 500 Altenew products with the code meetALTENEW. So in celebration of the sale, I’m showing card using one of my favorite stencils by Altenew, Grid Stencil. I’m using it with a cute little tiger from Reverse Confetti - Heart Pals stamp set.
The first thing I did is stamp this little guy + his balloons on some Eclipse Tape and fussy cut him out. I like to use my detail scissors to do this kind of stuff. Fussy cutting is much easier with small, detail scissors.
I like to put a piece of removable tape on the back of the Cardstock I’m stenciling so that it stays in place while I stencil it. Any shifting of the paper can really mess up the stencil pattern. Especially when you’re using more than one color of Distress Inks.
Once the cardstock is in place, I tape the stencil pattern over it. For this background I decided to use the Life Changing brush by Picket Fence Studios. This is my first time using this brush with Distress Oxides, usually I use my foam blenders, but I wanted to see how well they worked with this particular ink.
I was really happy with the result! They blend the colors seamlessly and since the bristles are so smooth, you can leave some pigment from the previous color on the brush. That created a really smooth transition between colors. When the background was to the level of intensity I wanted, I stopped and pulled back my stencil.
Using my tweezers, I pulled off the masking and was left with this cute little guy floating on that fun background! Such a fun look.
Next I colored him in with my Copic Markers and added an orange frame. I like how nicely this card came together using complimentary colors. I added some shading under him so he was a little more grounded.
As a final touch I stamped a sentiment and then used my typewriter to type “happy birthday”. Then glued a few jewels to the front to finish it off.
So head over to the Ellen Hutson Shop to pick up this fun stencil at 25% off today! The sale is happening 2/22 thru 2/24 while supplies last with the code meetALTENEW! I’m partial to stencils and Altenew has lots of fun ones to pick from!
