It’s release day at the Ellen Hutson shop for the Essentials by Ellen July release and we’re doing a blog hop!
I grabbed a handful of supplies to create all the cards for this release and just took an afternoon to make them. I searched Pinterest for an inspirational photo that I thought would work well with the images. You can see my inspiration Pinterest board here where I’ve collected color combinations that I’d like to use on my cards.
I like to have color combinations that incorporate a really strong, contrasting color with some more playful colors. In this case it was navy that I used for contrast and pink & orange as a playful touch.
I created all of the backgrounds using Distress Oxide inks. The striped background and the blended backgrounds were all created using the Ranger Ink Blending tool. I like using this tool when I’m creating backgrounds with intense color. I blended the inks on some 80lb Neenah Solar White cardstock.
Since I used this method for creating the cards, I started by stamping all the images on white cardstock with some Lawn Fawn ink in Jet Black. I stamped each image from each stamp set twice and then started coloring them in the same color scheme. When I had colored all my images, I die cut them and started arranging them on my cards. I spent about 3 hours total blending backgrounds, coloring images, die cutting and arranging to create these four cards.
Seriously? A mountain in the ocean? Yup! Totally works. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box! I used the mountains from the EBE Alpine Window die to create the background in this shaker. The Alpine Window is even more versatile than you might think! Play around with different layouts using it with this new Porthole Die, I bet you’ll be surprised at how much you can do when these two dies are combined!
Cut the Porthole die twice and rotate the layers slightly to cover the holes in the frame when you want to add another color below it for contrast or to add foam tape for a shaker card.
I layered the porthole shaker onto some orange cardstock and adhered it onto a Neenah Solar White cardstock base. I used some white embossing powder for the sentiment on some navy cardstock. I cut the strip down to 1” x 4-1/4” and adhered it to the card front.
I hope you enjoy this release, there are so many fun images to choose!
