I really like the latest release from Ellen Hutson for masculine cards. That checkerboard pattern is so fun. I decided to try it over a blended background I created with a few Distress Oxide inks. (colors will be linked below) First I blended three colors on a piece of 80lb Neenah Solar White Cardstock. I finally got around to watching a video by Tim Holtz on how he intended the Oxide inks should be used. I really like the pattern left behind when they're splashed with water.
Next I took the Plaid Maker stamp set and created a checkerboard pattern using Distress Oxide Faded Jeans. Just as on previous projects, I aligned the solid block with the corner of my paper. Then I carefully moved up the paper with the checkerboard pattern. Once I had the solid squares in place, I added a few hatch pattern squares for more texture. I like the depth created by layer the images over the blended background.
Once the background was complete, I stamped my images. I used an older stamp set by Avery Elle called Stoked. I really can't believe that I've not found this set earlier. It's so perfect for boy's cards and this very skater inspired background. I used my Copic markers to color in the image and die cut the skater dude. I stamped a sentiment using VersMark ink and embossed it in black. Then I added some Pretty Pink Posh jewels and some tiny iridescent stars.
This was such a fun card to make! I hope you're enjoying your week so far and I look forward to sharing my next project with you soon.
Happy stamping peeps.
